Body of missing man discovered

NEWPORT, Ark.  – Jackson County deputies have discovered the body of a Jonesboro man missing for the past several days.

According to a media release from Captain Ricky Morales of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Grubbs area around 4:55 p.m. April 8, just off the Cache River.

“Upon arrival, deputies were able to identify the male victim as Michael Alexander,” Morales said.

Alexander had not been seen since April 3 or 4.

Deputies searched the county and along the river Sunday, but didn’t find anything.

With help from Arkansas State Police, deputies used a helicopter to search the area.

In an update Monday, Morales said the sheriff’s department and the Grubbs Fire Department used air and ground efforts to search open fields, ditches, and other rugged terrains.

Crews also searched the Cache River area by boat and have flown for two days with no findings.

Alexander’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Morales said It is an ongoing investigation.
