Fort Smith, ARK – For the 18th consecutive year, Benny Johnson, leader of the Arkansas Stop the Violence movement, has continued a heartwarming holiday tradition by gifting bicycles to families in need on Christmas Day. This year, with the help of the Peyton Lee Mitchell Foundation, Johnson was able to surpass 400 bike donations, a milestone he’s maintained for the past six years.
The donation effort aims to bring joy and encourage outdoor activity for children, something Johnson believes is especially important during the holiday season. “We went over 400 bikes again this year,” Johnson said. “We’ve been over 400 about the last six years.”
Among the recipients was Kashana Brewster, a mother of four, who expressed her desire to get her children outside and away from electronic devices. “I try my best to keep my kids away from electronic devices and have them play outside, like how I was raised,” Brewster shared.
The bike donations, which have become a signature part of Johnson’s Christmas outreach, not only provide families with a tangible gift but also encourage a sense of community and outdoor activity. For Brewster, seeing her children smile as they received their bikes made the Christmas season even more special. “It’s priceless. I love it. I love to see my kids smile; I love to see them happy,” she said. “And as long as they’re happy, I’m happy.”
Thanks to Johnson’s continued efforts and the support of community organizations, Christmas Day in Little Rock became a little brighter for hundreds of families, with children riding into the New Year on new bikes and smiles on their faces. The Arkansas Stop the Violence movement’s annual bike giveaway is not only a festive occasion but also a reminder of the power of generosity in making the holidays a little bit brighter for those who need it most.
