ASP investigating after inmate used contraband weapon to stab corrections officer in the facial area while serving time for violent convictions

Arkansas – Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division special agents are investigating an incident involving an assault on a correctional officer at the Larry B. Norris Unit of the Arkansas Division of Correction (ADC).

The incident happened Thursday, June 18, 2026, around 11:30 a.m. after ADC staff returned inmate Christopher Ivey, 45, to his cell.

According to Arkansas State Police, Ivey assaulted a correctional officer during the incident and used a contraband weapon to stab the officer in the facial area.

The injured officer was transported to a local medical center for treatment and was later released.

Ivey was most recently sentenced to the Arkansas Division of Correction in June 2025 following convictions for possession of firearms by certain persons, two counts of terroristic threatening, and battery in the first degree.

He is currently serving a 96-month sentence, and the investigation into the assault remains ongoing.
