Arkansas State Police K9 Ghost receives protective vest in honor of fallen K9 officer

Fort Smith, Ark. – Arkansas State Police K9 Ghost is now better protected thanks to a bullet and stab protective vest provided by the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The vest, custom-fitted and certified for law enforcement use, was donated through the organization’s nationwide program. K9 Ghost’s vest is embroidered with the tribute, “In memory of K9 Gabo, Jonesboro, AR – EOW 1/16/20,” honoring the fallen K9 officer from Jonesboro.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity founded in 2009 with the mission of equipping law enforcement and related agency dogs across the U.S. with protective gear.

Since its inception, the organization has provided more than 5,837 vests to K9s in all 50 states, totaling a donation value of over $6.9 million. These vests are made in the U.S., weigh 4–5 pounds, come with a five-year warranty, and are designed to protect K9s from both bullets and blades.

Eligible dogs must be at least 20 months old, actively working, and certified with a law enforcement or related agency. K9s with expired vests are also eligible.

The charity welcomes donations in any amount, with a $985 contribution fully sponsoring one vest. With an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s across the country, programs like this continue to play a critical role in protecting the four-legged officers who serve alongside their human counterparts.
