Arkansas – An Arkansas State Police corporal resigned Sunday, one day after he was arrested following a single-vehicle crash while on duty in an ASP vehicle.
Corporal John M. Parker, 45, of Camden, resigned from ASP on Aug. 23, according to the agency.
The crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 on U.S. Highway 278 near Monticello. Parker was not injured in the crash.
Following the wreck, ASP troopers conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which indicated impairment, according to the agency.
Parker was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated/Drugs and Careless and Prohibited Driving. He was transported to the Drew County Detention Center.
ASP initially placed Parker on administrative leave while the agency’s Office of Professional Standards conducted an internal investigation.
The ASP Highway Patrol Division was also investigating the crash.
The agency said Parker had been employed by Arkansas State Police since 2014.
Parker’s resignation came as the internal investigation was underway. ASP did not release additional information about the circumstances surrounding the crash or the allegations against Parker.
The agency said no additional information was being released at this time.
