Arkansas man dies following officer-involved shooting after allegedly firing weapon inside and outside local service station, ASP CID special agents investigating incident

Arkansas – The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Searcy at the request of the Searcy Police Department.

According to ASP, Searcy police officers responded around 2:15 p.m. on May 12 to a disturbance call at a service station located at the corner of Maple Street, also known as Highway 16, and Holmes Road.

Witnesses told investigators that the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Cordney Sherod Stewart of Jacksonville, fired a weapon inside and outside the business during the incident.

Authorities said an SPD officer discharged his weapon, striking Stewart.

He received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No officers were injured during the incident, according to ASP.

Officials said Stewart’s body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.

Once the investigation is complete, ASP CID special agents will submit their findings to the White County Prosecuting Attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
