Arkansas man charged with leaving scene in fatal I-30 road worker collision

Arkansas – A 64-year-old Arkansas man, George WiIIis, has been charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving death, a Class B felony, related to the July 21, 2025, death of a road worker on Interstate 30.

Arkansas State Police identified Willis as the suspect and arranged for him to surrender at the Hempstead County Detention Center. He was taken into custody at 12:55 p.m. on the day of the arrest, with bond set at $25,000.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on July 21, when troopers responded to a fatal hit-and-run near the 18-mile marker of I-30.

The victim, Jonathan Gary Williams, 44, of Sherwood, was working as a contractor for the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

Williams was applying reflectors to the roadway center line from a specialized trailer when he was struck by a 2004 Buick Century.

The vehicle was found disabled and abandoned at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing the driver flee on foot. The investigation remains ongoing.
