Arkansas – A 36-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred Tuesday in Wynne.
Authorities said Edward Lampkin Jr. was arrested at approximately 8:45 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City. The arrest was carried out by Arkansas State Police Special Agents, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and the 1st Judicial Task Force. He is expected to be transported to the Cross County Detention Center.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division initiated the homicide investigation at the request of the Wynne Police Department following the fatal shooting on April 14, 2026.
According to investigators, officers responded around 11:50 a.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at the intersection of C Street and Fitzhugh Circle. Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as 34-year-old Javon Beal of Wynne, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Beal was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
His body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where officials will determine the official cause and manner of death.
Arkansas State Police officials said the arrest was the result of coordinated efforts between state and local agencies.
“As an assisting agency, Arkansas State Police depends on strong relationships with our local law enforcement partners,” said Col. Mike Hagar. “We would not have seen the successful apprehension of this suspect without the Wynne and Forrest City police departments.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
