Arkansas – Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas Department of Transportation made a significant drug seizure during a routine safety inspection along Interstate 40 in Crawford County.
The discovery of nearly 5,000 pounds of illegal marijuana was made when Mack, the AHP’s newest K-9 officer, alerted officers to the presence of drugs inside a commercial motor vehicle.
The shipment, which consisted of seven pallets of marijuana, was estimated to weigh approximately 4,900 pounds.
The street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be over $16 million. According to AHP Chief Jeff Holmes, the department regularly seizes between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds of drugs during operations, making this discovery one of the largest in recent history.
“Our officers are highly trained to detect illegal activities during commercial motor vehicle inspections,” Holmes said. “In this instance, the officer and his K-9 partner Mack were simply doing their jobs and prevented a massive shipment of illegal drugs from reaching its destination.”
The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man believed to have been traveling from California to Georgia, was arrested on-site for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver. He was taken into custody and is being held at the Crawford County Detention Center.
This seizure follows a similar bust by the Arkansas State Police, which resulted in the confiscation of 2,872 pounds of marijuana on February 3, 2025. The AHP’s latest operation has made a significant impact in the fight against illegal drug trafficking.
