Fort Smith, Ark. – The Arkansas Department of Transportation reminded candidates for political office and their supporters that placing campaign signs on highway right of way is against state law.
According to ARDOT, only official directional, informational, and regulatory signs are permitted on state-owned highway property.
Any other signs found on highway right of way are removed by the local ARDOT Area Maintenance Office.
ARDOT Director Jared Wiley emphasized the importance of keeping right of ways clear to ensure the safety of both drivers and road workers.
Personnel will remove any yard signs placed on the right of way and contact owners of larger billboard signs to have them taken down.
Removed signs can be retrieved during normal business hours at the nearest ARDOT Area Maintenance Office.
