Little Rock, Arkansas – Nearly a month has passed since the tornado wreaked havoc on parts of Little Rock and the surrounding area.
Making sure individuals who were impacted are not forgotten has continued to be a top priority for volunteers.
One Indiana couple has been actively assisting others in the Natural State.
Despite being retired, Butch and Julie Bauer have been together for 57 years and they have no plans to slow down.
They are Red Cross volunteers who have crossed state lines to assist with relief efforts.
They have been assisting with meal distribution in Arkansas for about a week.
They stopped to Cracker Barrel on Monday, and they stuffed the truck full of chicken, hash browns, and fried apples.
“We have campers full of meat of some sort, a couple of vegetables, rolls, and utensils, and we box those all up,” said Julie.
These two have been participating in volunteer work for a while. Longtime Red Cross worker Julie can recall her first experience assisting hurricane Katrina victims.
She claimed that after that, she began inviting Butch to join her in volunteering.
They explained that they have no immediate plans to cease aiding those in need while they continue to travel the nation.
“Sometimes you can get tears in your eyes… You see people that are really struggling. I think making them feel better,” said Butch.
Since the storms struck on March 31, the Red Cross has provided more than 25,000 meals to tornado victims in Arkansas.
