Arkansas – Arkansas State Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred near Malvern after a physical and verbal altercation between a father and his son.
At around 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 300 block of Bayne Road. The sheriff’s office requested assistance from Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division.
According to witnesses, 70-year-old Linden Torchia was attempting to help his 31-year-old son, Michael Torchia, jump-start a vehicle when an argument escalated into a physical confrontation.
Linden reported that Michael began arguing with him before striking the window of Linden’s vehicle with jumper cables and an unidentified metal object.
During the physical altercation, Linden fired a weapon, striking Michael in the chest.
The Hot Spring County Coroner pronounced Michael Torchia dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where an official cause and manner of death will be determined.
No arrest has been made. ASP CID Special Agents will submit their investigative file to the Hot Spring County Prosecuting Attorney for review once the investigation is complete.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
