Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith Mayor George McGill proclaimed “Carlos Whittaker Day” and presented the author and speaker with a key to the city during a King Speaker Series event at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith.
The City of Fort Smith said McGill joined the church for its King Speaker Series featuring Whittaker, an author, influencer and speaker.
Following Whittaker’s message, McGill proclaimed the day in his honor and presented him with a key to the city.
The city thanked Whittaker for visiting Fort Smith and said his message encouraged residents to slow down, learn more and be present for the people around them.
“Your message encouraged us to make room for connection and care in our everyday lives,” the city said in a social media post.
Whittaker is known for his work as an author, speaker and social media personality, where he shares messages focused on connection, community and personal growth.
The event brought together local residents and community members for Whittaker’s presentation as part of the King Speaker Series.
The city also encouraged residents unfamiliar with Whittaker’s work to follow him on Instagram and learn more about his work and the community surrounding his online presence.
The key to the city is an honorary recognition presented by municipalities to individuals who are being recognized for contributions, achievements or connections to the community.
