Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith officially welcomed University of Arkansas–Fort Smith students back to campus by bringing back one of its annual traditions, Paint the Town Blue.
City officials said the event is one of the community’s favorite traditions and serves as a way to celebrate the return of students, faculty and staff for the new academic year.
This year’s celebration included a special guest, Numa, the mascot of the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith Lions.
During the event, Mayor George McGill officially pinned Numa and named the mascot an official Fort Smith ambassador.
The city said the university continues to play an important role in the community and highlighted the contributions made by its students, faculty and staff.
Officials also used the event to encourage residents to show their Lion Pride and welcome students back to Fort Smith.
“Welcome back, Lions! Fort Smith is ready for you!” the city said.
