Arkansas State Police investigating after paramedic shot 29-year-old man during medical call after authorities said the victim became combative

Arkansas – The Arkansas State Police (ASP) are investigating a shooting that occurred during a medical emergency response in Yell County after a paramedic shot a 29-year-old man who authorities said became combative.

According to the Yell County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), deputies and emergency medical services responded at approximately 6 a.m. on July 2 to a home in the 10000 block of Prairie Lane in Centerville following reports of a disturbance.

Authorities said the 29-year-old man at the residence reportedly became combative with paramedics during the incident. During the confrontation, a paramedic fired a weapon, striking the man.

The man was transported to Dardanelle Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said no one else was seriously injured.

The Yell County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Arkansas State Police investigate the shooting.

ASP said Criminal Investigation Division special agents are conducting the investigation and will submit their findings to the Yell County Prosecuting Attorney upon its completion. The prosecutor will determine whether any further action is warranted.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said no additional information will be released at this time.
