Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith is inviting residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day and America’s 250th birthday during the annual Mayor’s 4th of July Celebration on Saturday, July 4.
The free event will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Harry E. Kelley River Park, located at 121 Riverfront Drive, and will feature live entertainment, family-friendly activities, food vendors, and a fireworks display.
The evening will begin with music from DJ Susie Q, followed by performances from the River Valley Community Band, Divas on Fire!, Larry B. Soul Experience, and Mr. Cabbagehead and the Screaming Radishes. Mayor George McGill and emcee Rick Hayes will officially welcome attendees during the celebration before the evening’s entertainment continues.
The celebration will conclude with a fireworks show beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.
In addition to live music, families can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the event, including inflatable attractions, face painting, carnival games, roaming performers, and other entertainment for children.
Several local food vendors will also be on site, offering a variety of food and refreshments for attendees.
City officials encourage guests to bring blankets or lawn chairs, sunscreen, and water to stay comfortable during the event. Pets will not be permitted, with the exception of service animals.
To help accommodate the celebration, several downtown streets will close beginning at 4 p.m., including portions of Riverfront Drive, North 2nd Street, and North A, B, and E Streets. Free public transportation will begin operating at 5 p.m. along Garrison Avenue, Rogers Avenue, North A Street, and North B Street. Handicap parking will be available at Harry E. Kelley River Park and The Blue Lion.
City officials encourage attendees to plan ahead for parking and transportation as large crowds are expected for the community celebration.
