Gov. Sanders reacts after Senate candidate’s resurfaced comments about police, says “whenever you think he’s hit rock bottom, he just keeps digging”

Arkansas – Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders reacted this week after resurfaced online comments attributed to Maine Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner drew renewed criticism from Republicans and law enforcement supporters.

“You gotta hand it to Graham Platner: whenever you think he’s hit rock bottom, he just keeps digging,” Sanders wrote on social media while sharing a post from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which highlighted previously reported comments in which Platner allegedly referred to law enforcement officers as “opportunistic cowards” and “overweight pansies.” Sanders added a one-word response to the allegations: “Disgusting.”

The comments are the latest controversy involving Platner, the Democratic nominee seeking to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in Maine. Over the past several months, numerous posts from a deleted Reddit account linked to Platner have resurfaced, generating national attention and drawing criticism from political opponents, FOX News reported.

According to reports, the comments highlighted by the NRSC were among a larger collection of online posts made over several years under the username “P-Hustle,” an account that Platner has previously acknowledged was his. The comments have been documented by multiple news organizations and have become a recurring issue throughout his Senate campaign.

The controversy surrounding Platner extends beyond the recently resurfaced remarks about law enforcement. Earlier reports detailed additional Reddit comments that sparked backlash because of statements involving race, military service, political violence and other sensitive topics. Fox News reported that several of the posts contained offensive language and controversial opinions that critics argue are unbecoming of a candidate for federal office.

Other resurfaced comments have also generated scrutiny. In recent weeks, reports highlighted posts in which Platner allegedly mocked a wounded Purple Heart recipient and made other inflammatory remarks online. Critics have argued that the collection of comments raises broader questions about his judgment and temperament.

Platner has previously addressed the controversy surrounding his online activity. During the 2025 campaign cycle, he said many of the comments did not reflect who he is today and attributed some of his past online behavior to struggles following military service in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has publicly apologized for a number of the remarks and asked voters to judge him based on his current actions rather than comments made years ago.

Despite those explanations, Republican groups have continued to spotlight the posts as the Senate race gains national attention. The NRSC has repeatedly highlighted newly resurfaced comments, arguing that voters deserve to know about Platner’s past statements before heading to the ballot box.

Sanders’ reaction quickly gained attention online as criticism of Platner’s comments spread among Republican officials and conservative organizations. The Arkansas governor did not elaborate beyond her social media post, but her remarks added to a growing list of elected officials condemning the comments.

The controversy continues to unfold as Maine’s closely watched Senate race moves forward, with Platner facing ongoing questions about his past online activity while campaigning against Collins in one of the nation’s most closely monitored contests of the 2026 election cycle.
