Fort Smith, Ark. – Northbound traffic on Interstate 540 was shut down June 16 following an injury crash near Exit 11, according to the Fort Smith Police Department.
The Arkansas State Police is investigating the accident, which occurred on northbound I-540 near Exit 11.
As emergency crews responded and the investigation continued, authorities closed all northbound lanes in the area.
Motorists traveling northbound were required to exit the interstate at Exit 12 and use alternate routes.
Officials advised drivers to expect delays and avoid the area if possible while the investigation and response efforts remained underway.
The Fort Smith Police Department shared the traffic alert and urged motorists to use caution and seek alternate travel routes until the roadway could be reopened.
