Officer Kyle Newman transferred from ICU to rehabilitation facility as recovery continues after line-of-duty shooting

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department announced Monday that Officer Kyle Newman has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a rehabilitation facility as he continues recovering from critical injuries sustained in a line-of-duty shooting on May 17.

According to the department, the transfer marks a significant milestone in the officer’s recovery and reflects the progress he has made since the shooting. Officials said his focus will now shift toward rehabilitation, continued healing, and rebuilding his strength.

The department described the move as an encouraging step forward and credited Newman’s medical team for helping guide him into the next phase of care.
