FORT SMITH, Ark. — City officials and community partners gathered Wednesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Next Step Neighborhood, a project aimed at providing transitional housing and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The development, led by Next Step Homeless Services, will offer private housing units along with access to education and healthcare resources designed to help residents work toward self-sufficiency.
According to project organizers, the Next Step Neighborhood is intended to provide more than temporary housing by creating a supportive environment focused on stability, personal growth, and long-term success.
City leaders said the project represents an investment in the well-being of the community and will help address the needs of individuals facing homelessness in Fort Smith.
Once completed, the development will provide residents with housing and access to services intended to support their transition toward independent living. Officials said the space is being designed to promote dignity, stability, and hope for those it serves.
