Fort Smith, Ark. – An early morning crash involving an intoxicated driver caused a significant power outage in the area of North 48th Street and Grand Avenue on Saturday, according to the Fort Smith Police Department.
Police said officers responded to a one-vehicle accident at approximately 2 a.m. on May 30. Investigators determined the driver, who was intoxicated, struck a power pole and caused severe damage to the structure.
The driver was not injured in the crash.
The collision resulted in a widespread power outage affecting the area from the crash site near North 48th Street and Grand Avenue to Albert Pike.
Utility crews with OG&E were working to restore service following the incident.
As of Saturday, there was no estimated timeline for when power would be fully restored.
The Fort Smith Police Department reminded motorists to drive responsibly and avoid impaired driving to help prevent crashes and disruptions to the community.
