City of Fort Smith releases 2026 Recycling & Collections Report, reports recycling rate exceeded statewide average last year

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith has released its 2026 Recycling & Collections Report, highlighting collection operations, recycling efforts, and waste management data from 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.

According to the city’s Solid Waste Services Department, Fort Smith achieved a 16% recycling rate in 2025. The city noted that the figure exceeded Arkansas’s reported statewide recycling rate of 12% from the previous year.

The report provides an overview of the city’s collection and recycling programs and tracks progress made over the past year.

While acknowledging there is still room for improvement, the city described the 16% recycling rate as a strong foundation for future growth as officials continue working to increase recycling participation and efficiency in 2026 and beyond.

The 2026 Recycling & Collections Report is available through the City of Fort Smith and includes additional data on recycling trends, collection services, and waste diversion efforts.
