Fort Smith will host general darby challenge on April 26

Fort Smith, Ark. – Fort Smith will host the 2026 General Darby Challenge on Sunday, April 26, with participants set to gather for a morning event honoring General William O. Darby. The event will run from 7 a.m. to noon and is organized by the Fort Smith Museum of History.

The challenge will begin at the General William O. Darby statue located in Cisterna Park in downtown Fort Smith. Participants will travel down “A” Street before connecting to the Greg Smith River Trail, where the route will turn north and continue along the riverfront toward Fort Smith Park.

The return portion of the event will follow the same trail system, leading participants back to Cisterna Park. Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to honor General Darby at the statue where the event began.

Officials encouraged motorists to be mindful when traveling through the affected areas during the event. Community members were also invited to attend and take part in the activities.
