Arkansas man killed following encounter with responding officer after reportedly being armed with knife and hammer and making threats, ASP investigating

Arkansas – The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that resulted in a man’s death in Izard County.

According to authorities, the investigation was initiated at the request of the Izard County Sheriff’s Office following the incident, which occurred on the morning of April 18, 2026.

Dispatchers received a call around 9:45 a.m. reporting a disturbance at a residence on Sylamore Vista Lane.

The caller indicated that an individual was armed with a knife and a hammer and was making threats. Deputies from both Izard and Stone counties responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the individual, later identified as 35-year-old David Douglas of Mountain Home.

During the encounter, an Izard County deputy discharged a service weapon, striking Douglas. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Special agents with the State Police Criminal Investigation Division will conduct an independent review of the incident, focusing on the use of deadly force.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Izard County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors will then determine whether the use of lethal force was consistent with Arkansas law. No additional details have been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
