Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith announced that construction is underway on a new infrastructure project aimed at improving sewer capacity as part of its ongoing Consent Decree efforts.
Project 23-15-C1, also known as the FL01 Capacity Improvements project, began in March and includes the replacement of two smaller parallel sewer mains. The work will install approximately 3,400 feet of 42-inch sewer main to enhance system performance and reliability.
As part of the project, a service road will also be constructed in two separate segments, with access points located off Newlon Road and Riverfront Drive.
Mickle Griffen LLC is serving as the design engineer for the project, while Belt Construction, Inc. was selected as the construction contractor.
City officials estimated the total cost of the project at $4,607,686. Construction is expected to be completed by Nov. 20, 2026.
The project is one of several initiatives tied to the city’s Consent Decree, which focuses on improving wastewater infrastructure and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
