Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith announced that Mayor George McGill welcomed Gen. Steven S. Nordhaus, chief of the National Guard Bureau, during a recent visit to Ebbing Air National Guard Base.
During the visit, the mayor presented Nordhaus with a key to the city in recognition of his leadership and service.
The visit highlighted the importance of the installation and its growing role in national defense.
City officials said Fort Smith continues to support Ebbing Air National Guard Base, the 188th Wing, and the Foreign Military Sales mission.
These efforts have contributed to strengthening military readiness, supporting international partnerships, and elevating the region’s significance in defense operations.
