Forth Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department announced that the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas will pass through the area on Tuesday, May 19, beginning at 8 a.m.
The run will start at a Walmart on South Zero Street and travel through Fort Smith, making a stop at the police department before continuing across the river into Van Buren.
Participants are expected to depart from the department at 9 a.m., following a route along Garrison Avenue to North 11th Street, then continuing to Midland Boulevard.
Officials said one lane of traffic will be designated for runners, who will be escorted by police throughout the route.
Community members are encouraged to come out and show support, particularly along Garrison Avenue between North 6th and North 11th streets.
The Torch Run is part of a statewide effort that will conclude in Searcy, marking the start of the Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games.
