Fort Smith celebrated ribbon cutting for upgraded Tilles Park

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith, Arkansas hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate recent improvements at Tilles Park, highlighting new amenities designed to serve residents of all ages and abilities.

City officials said the upgrades were completed in three phases and include an inclusive playground, an asphalt walking trail with new benches, the conversion of two tennis courts into basketball courts, and improvements to disc golf tees. The playground features designated areas for children ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, along with a multi-swing bay.

Tilles Park officially reopened on October 1, 2025, following construction that temporarily closed portions of the park.

The event brought together community members and local leaders, including Mayor George McGill, as well as board members, parks commissioners, and representatives from state offices.

Officials said the improvements aim to provide a welcoming space for recreation, community gatherings, and outdoor activities, emphasizing accessibility for children of all abilities.
