City officials announce community blood drive to support area hospitals and local services

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith announced that Our Blood Institute will host the Thunder Blood Drive on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Fort Smith Convention Center to help meet critical blood needs during the New Year holiday.

The blood drive will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is intended to support area hospitals while also benefiting a local nonprofit. Organizers said donors who schedule an appointment using the QR code on the event flyer will double their impact, as each blood donation will also trigger a monetary donation made in the donor’s name to the Area Agency on Aging.

According to the city, first-time donors will generate a $100 monetary donation to the Area Agency on Aging, which provides essential services to residents in the community. All donors will also receive a free Thunder t-shirt and a Thunder game voucher while supplies last.

City officials encouraged residents who are eligible to donate to participate, noting that the event offers an opportunity to save lives while supporting local services at the same time.
