Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a proclamation recognizing November 27, 2025, as Thanksgiving Day in Arkansas and announced that the State Capitol and all state offices would be closed on Friday, November 28, to allow employees additional time with their families.
The proclamation noted that the nation’s first official Thanksgiving was declared in 1864 by President Abraham Lincoln, who urged Americans to pause amid the Civil War and give thanks for the blessings they enjoyed.
More than a century and a half later, the governor stated that Americans continued to gather with loved ones, share fellowship, and take time away from the pace of modern life.
The proclamation emphasized that Thanksgiving offered Arkansans an opportunity to return home, enjoy food with family, and express gratitude for the abundance in their lives.
Governor Sanders encouraged residents to mark the day with reflection and appreciation for the gifts they receive.
The order was signed and sealed on October 27, 2025.
