Kansas – A Kansas woman was ordered to spend the next thirty seven months in prison for her role in the shooting death of 7-year-old Davon in Kansas earlier this year. The defendant, 25-yea-rold T. DiIIard, had initially been charged with first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated chiId endangerment.
Last month, she pleaded guilty to one count of invoIuntary mansIaughter and six counts of aggravated chiId endangerment. During her sentencing, Judge HatfieId granted a defense motion for a downward departure, resulting in a sentence below the minimum recommended guideline.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex in Kansas. According to court documents, the defendant and several friends were in her car drinking aIcohoI while seven children, including the victim, were inside the apartment unsupervised.
The woman later acknowledged owning a firearm, saying she left it on the counter behind her purse where it was not easily seen. She also said the firearm was left on the counter after a friend filmed her holding it to look cooI for a photo.
One of the children, 4-year-old, discovered a firearm in the woman’s purse on the kitchen counter. The children then went into a bedroom to play, and it was there that the victim was shot in the stomach.
Initially, the woman denied owning or having any firearms in the house. However, investigators found a video on her phone showing her holding a gun earlier in the day. Additionally, one of her friends claimed that the defendant had acquired a gun a few weeks prior.
