Governor Sanders announces special election to fill vacancy for State Representative District 70

Arkansas – Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a proclamation calling a special election to fill the vacancy in office for State Representative for District 70, following the resignation of Representative Carlton Wing on September 30, 2025.

According to the proclamation, the special election will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. A special primary election for all eligible political parties will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, with a runoff, if necessary, scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The filing period for party candidates will open at 12 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, and close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Certificates of nomination must be issued by parties no later than 12 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, and filed with the Secretary of State’s Office by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026.

Independent candidates must submit their required documents to the Secretary of State’s Office by 12 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026. Petitions may be circulated from Wednesday, January 28, 2026, through the same April 13 deadline.

Drawings for ballot positions will take place on or before December 4, 2025, for the primary election, and on or before April 16, 2026, for the special election.

Certification of election results is set for April 10, 2026, for the primary election and June 19, 2026, for the special election.

All other deadlines and requirements will follow the election laws of the State of Arkansas.
