Fort Smith, Ark. – A 15-year-old girl is being recognized for extraordinary bravery after defending her mother from a violent home intruder, leading to the suspect’s swift arrest.
On the evening of May 2, 2025, a man forced his way into a Fort Smith residence occupied by a woman and her teenage daughter.
As the intruder struggled with the mother in the front room, 15-year-old Alivia, hearing the commotion from her bedroom, sprang into action. She confronted and physically attacked the man, successfully forcing him to flee the scene.
Thanks to Alivia’s courageous response and the help of home security footage, Fort Smith Police were able to identify and arrest the suspect within 24 hours of the incident.
In a ceremony held by the Fort Smith Police Department, Alivia was presented with the Chief’s Coin of Excellence and a Certificate of Bravery for her quick thinking and heroism.
“Courage has no age, and heroes walk among us,” the department said in a public statement. “Well done, Alivia. You make your city and your wonderful family proud.”
Officials said the recognition not only honors Alivia’s bravery but also highlights the importance of community vigilance and resilience in the face of danger.
