57-year-old man arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision near Glen Rose

Arkansas – Arkansas State Police have arrested a 57-year-old Florida man, Richard Volz, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in October 2023 on Interstate 30 near the Glen Rose community.

The crash happened on October 22, 2023, around 1:15 p.m., when ASP Troopers responded to a report of a collision between two tractor-trailers on the westbound side of I-30 at the 108-mile marker. The crash claimed the life of 23-year-old Anthony Valdez of San Antonio, Texas, who was driving a flatbed tractor-trailer. The other driver involved in the incident fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Following months of investigation, ASP identified Volz as the driver of the second tractor-trailer. At the time of the identification, Volz was already in custody in Florida on unrelated charges. He was extradited to Arkansas earlier this week.

During an interview with investigators, Volz admitted to being involved in a road rage incident that preceded the fatal collision, according to ASP.

Volz was officially taken into custody on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, and is currently being held at the Saline County Detention Center. He faces a felony charge of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. Authorities noted that additional charges may be filed pending further review by the Saline County Prosecutor’s Office.
