Virginia – A Virginia parent, 23-year-old E. WaIker, has been charged with feIony homicide in connection with the death of her baby.
This charge was added earlier this week, supplementing the previous charges of feIony chiId negIect and feIony chiId negIect resuIting in serious injury that the parent faced following the infant’s death earlier this year.
The case began earlier this year when emergency responders were dispatched to the woman’s residence after reports of an unresponsive baby. Despite life-saving efforts, the child was pronounced dead at the local hospital.
The infant showed clear signs of severe malnutrition, with multiple open sores and areas where skin was peeling away. Investigators reported that the parent admitted to leaving the child, along with her other children, alone for long stretches without any supervision.
Earlier in March, the defendant was arrested for a DUI, during which time her children were reported to be wandering their apartment complex alone.
The woman is currently being held at the county detention center. The medical examiner’s determination of the cause of the infant’s death could take six to eight weeks.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact the authorities.
