Arkansas – The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting that took place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Eureka Springs. The incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. in the 13000 block of Highway 187.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the ASP CID following an officer-involved shooting during a SWAT operation.
The Tri-City SWAT team, which includes officers from Berryville Police, Eureka Springs Police, and Green Forest Police, had been executing a search and arrest warrant for 44-year-old Jeremy Coyle of Eureka Springs in connection with sexual assault charges.
According to reports, SWAT officers made contact with Coyle and attempted to get him to exit his residence. When Coyle did not comply with the request, officers entered the home. It was then that they encountered Coyle reportedly armed with a firearm.
Witnesses on the scene indicated that Coyle pointed the weapon at officers, leading one officer to discharge his service weapon. Coyle was struck and was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics to provide emergency medical treatment.
Following the incident, Coyle’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an official autopsy. The lab will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Meanwhile, the ASP CID Special Agents will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, including reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
Once the investigation is complete, a report will be submitted to the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether the officer’s use of lethal force was justified under Arkansas law.
As the investigation continues, the authorities are asking the public to remain patient and allow the process to unfold as investigators work to provide clarity on the incident.
