Fort Smith police respond to fatal self-inflicted shooting on North 7th Street

Fort Smith, Ark. – A shooting incident reported on the evening of Friday, May 2, in the area of North 7th and North 8th Streets has been determined to be a case of self-inflicted gunfire, according to the Fort Smith Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire and located one individual suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported the victim for medical treatment; however, the individual later succumbed to their injuries.

Following initial investigations at the scene, police confirmed that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted. The identity of the individual has not been released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

In a public statement, the Fort Smith Police Department extended condolences to the victim’s family and reminded the community of the importance of seeking help during times of emotional distress.
