Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith recently hosted the 2nd Annual Fort Smith General Darby Challenge, bringing together community members in a powerful tribute to local and international history.
The event honored General William O. Darby, a Fort Smith native and World War II hero, while highlighting the city’s deep-rooted connections to its sister cities in Italy.
Participants began the day with an early morning ruck march and concluded by crossing the finish line in a moving show of unity and remembrance.
One of the most emotional components of the event was the Silent Mile, dedicated to 94 Arkansans who gave their lives in service.
The challenge, which has grown in attendance since its inaugural year, continues to build momentum as a symbol of civic pride and historical reflection.
