Fort Smith offers free document drop-off event on May 3 for secure off-site shredding of personal papers

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith is offering residents a secure and convenient opportunity to dispose of old personal documents during a free document drop-off event on Saturday, May 3. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Central Mall parking lot, rain or shine.

Although referred to as a “shred event,” officials clarified that no on-site shredding will take place. Instead, all documents collected will be securely transported and shredded off-site by JEI, Inc., a trusted local partner.

This free service is available to all Fort Smith residents. To participate, individuals must present a valid photo ID or a utility bill showing a Fort Smith address.

Each vehicle is limited to three banker’s boxes or up to 100 pounds of paper. Trailers will not be allowed at the event, and participants will be responsible for unloading their own documents.

Cardboard boxes used for transporting papers may be left behind unless residents request to keep them.

The city encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive materials such as financial records, tax documents, and other personal paperwork.
