Authorities locate missing man in submerged vehicle as Pulaski County continues recovery efforts after severe storms

Arkansas – A male victim who had been missing since the weekend was located deceased in a submerged vehicle near Rixie Road on Monday, April 7, 2025.

The discovery was made by the Pulaski County Office of Emergency Management and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, who had continued search efforts following a rescue response initiated on Saturday.

The original incident began on the morning of April 5, when the Sherwood Fire Department responded to reports of a submerged vehicle.

The response quickly transitioned into a rescue operation, during which an adult female was successfully rescued. However, search crews were initially unable to locate the adult male who was also believed to be in the vehicle at the time it entered the water.

Emergency crews spent hours searching the area, but challenging conditions hindered the operation. Following the initial efforts, the Pulaski County Office of Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Office resumed the search.

Their continued efforts led to the recovery of the man’s body two days later. His identity has not been released, and the investigation into how the vehicle entered the water is ongoing.

This incident was part of a series of emergencies across Pulaski County over the weekend, as severe weather impacted central Arkansas.

Among the storm-related tragedies was the death of a 5-year-old boy in Little Rock. The child was killed when a tree fell on his home in the 8500 block of Mabelvale Pike on the same day as the initial vehicle submersion.

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution during extreme weather events and to avoid flooded roadways and low-lying areas.

As recovery efforts continue, officials are asking residents to stay informed through local updates and to report any hazardous conditions.

Further details regarding the investigation into the submerged vehicle and the male victim’s death are being handled by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
