Fort Smith officials address temporary water discoloration

Fort Smith, Ark. – The City of Fort Smith has acknowledged reports of a pink or purple tint in the water, attributing the discoloration to a temporary overfeed of potassium permanganate at the Lake Fort Smith Treatment Plant.

Officials assured residents that the water remains safe for consumption and use despite its unusual appearance.

Crews have been flushing the system, and the color is expected to return to normal within the next day.

This story will be updated as new information becomes available.
