Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders Signs Executive Order to Assist Winter Storm Victims in Arkansas

Little Rock, ARK –  Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed an executive order today to provide immediate financial relief to residents impacted by the ongoing winter storms. The executive order declares a state of emergency in the state and allocates $150,000 from the Disaster Response and Recovery Fund to aid storm victims.

In her statement, Governor Sanders emphasized the severity of the winter weather and the need for swift action to support affected communities. “Our priority is the safety and well-being of Arkansans as they deal with the challenges posed by these severe winter storms,” Sanders said. “By mobilizing these funds, we are ensuring that help can be directed to those who need it most.”

The director of the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) has been granted the authority to distribute the funds at their discretion, allowing for a flexible and timely response to the areas most in need. This decision comes as parts of the state are expected to experience significant accumulations of winter precipitation.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for much of Arkansas, with local officials advising residents to take precautions. The storm is expected to bring hazardous conditions, including icy roads and power outages, posing a serious risk to public safety.

The funding allocation is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to address the immediate needs of residents, including potential costs for emergency response, shelter, and recovery efforts. State officials are continuing to monitor the situation closely and are coordinating with local agencies to ensure a swift recovery from the storm’s impact.

As winter storms continue to affect much of the state, authorities urge Arkansans to stay informed and follow weather advisories to stay safe during this challenging weather event.
