31-year-old man arrested following robbery and vehicle theft investigation in Fort Smith

Fort Smith, Ark. – A 31-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday night, May 3, following a robbery and vehicle theft investigation in Fort Smith, according to police.

Officers with the Fort Smith Police Department were dispatched to the 3400 block of Wirsing Avenue after receiving a report that a woman’s purse and vehicle keys had been forcefully taken.

Authorities said the suspect was known to the victim. During the altercation, the victim sustained minor injuries.

As officers continued their investigation, the stolen vehicle was located in the 4100 block of North 50th Street. Shortly after, officers received information that the man was inside the victim’s locked residence.

With permission granted by the victim, officers forced entry into the home and took him into custody without further incident.

During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the man was in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

He was transported to the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center, where he was booked on charges related to robbery and possession of suspected narcotics.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
