14-year-old arrested, charged following bomb-threat voicemail referencing Kimmons Middle School in Fort Smith

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Fort Smith Police Department arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with a bomb-threat voicemail discovered at a business in the 3400 block of Rogers Avenue.

Police responded to the report on Oct. 7 after the voicemail was found, though the message had originally been placed on Oct. 3. The voicemail implied Kimmons Middle School as a possible target.

Working with the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department, investigators identified the suspect, who was taken into custody on charges of threatening to commit an act of violence on a school and threatening a fire or bombing. Authorities confirmed that the threat had no merit.

Because the suspect is a minor and the investigation remains active, no additional details have been released. Officials also noted that this incident is not related to a separate bomb threat reported last week targeting school buses en route to Kimmons Middle School.

The Fort Smith Police Department thanked the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department for their assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information about the unrelated case is asked to call 479-709-5000 or dial 911 for emergencies.
